The Association of Manx Pilots is the oldest aviation club on the Island with approximately 100 members, including World War Two pilots and commercial pilots based on the Isle of Man. All the members are enthusiasts and would like to see the youth of today experience the thrills and challenges of flying. The Association has therefore decided to offer a Scholarship scheme to young people on the Island. This will be launched in 2011 and in the first year will be offered to Ramsey Grammar School students only.

The objective of the scheme is to promote aviation sports activities on the Island as a means of encouraging young people to experience flying. The scheme is not intended to focus on those who hope to pursue a career in one of the branches of aviation. The hope is that young people will be motivated by the opportunity to fly, to extend their horizons and build their self confidence through facing the challenges of aviation. The challenges of being able to pilot an aircraft are not insignificant. Successful pilots must overcome their natural fears and learn to control their emotions which performing difficult tasks. Problem solving, strategic thinking, planning, and multitasking are some of the many skills that will need to be toned and developed.
